USY is the 9th-12th grade youth group of the Conservative movement. USY is chartered by Temple Beth-El as a member of the United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism, the organization of Conservative congregations in North America. USY consists of 17 regions covering Canada and the United States. We are part of Tzafon Region, which covers upstate New York and the western parts of Massachusetts and Vermont.
In many ways, USY is a typical teenage youth group. We seek to create an informal setting in which we learn about our Jewish heritage, become more aware of community concerns, and have a great time socializing with other Jewish youth.
Officers and chairpersons are under the direction and approval of the Advisor and Youth Director that run the chapter. The congregation has a Youth Commission, which directs youth programs and supervises the Advisor and Director of USY and Kadima (grades 6-8, affiliate organization). Temple Beth-El's Chapter of USY is named Yedidei Tzafon, which means Friends from the north.
